The soccer star wins over his club teammate Xavi Hernandez and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo to gain the title in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday, January 9, 2012. This 24-year-old Argentina striker has been awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or for the best player of 2011. And this is the third Ballon d'Or success and a second Champion League success in three years for Messi.
Only Zinedine Zidane and of France and Ronaldo of Brazil won the trophy three time and Michel Platini was the only player who won the title for three consecutive years. Although Messi is just 24 years old, he could now be judged alongside other superstars of world football through years.
